Cupcake

The Robicelli’s are an amazing Mom and Pop bakery that makes the best cupcakes in the world. (The cupcake picture is their Banana Nutella, which is the cupcake that I love so much I requested them for my Birthday.) They make every batch by hand in their commercial kitchen in Sunset Park, and rotate through their hundred plus flavors four flavors at a time. They deliver Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to select retail locations, all of which are detailed on their Website. Soon, they will be opening …

SkimKim Foods

SkimKim has a tagline of “getting white people to like Korean Food.” She does this by using market fresh vegetables to create a lightly spiced and lightly fermented Skimchee, along with Kimchee butter, Asian vinegarettes and Kim Jong-il Bloody Mary Mix. As someone who have developed an appreciation for KimChi, her products bring an additional layer of flavor and texture to the traditional.
I caught up with them recently, and tried their “Pride” influenced Skimchee, made with rainbow chard, fresh corn, and red pepper paste. There is no fish sauce …

mixing_cashewweb

Nuts+Nuts is a family owned business creating Cashew products with a few social purposes.
First, the nuts. They source their nuts directly from farmers in Indonesia, supporting the farmers and guaranteeing mutual success. They also source their spices and packaging from Indonesia, creating a sustainable business.
They have interesting flavors, including Sweet and Salty with garlic and sugar, Spicy with lime and chilies, as well as Honey Sesame and Plain. I have never had cashews as fresh and flavorful as these, and the Indonesian spices add a special layer …

Goodness in a Loaf of Bread

I visited SCRATCHbread today, at their “only open certain hours until they sell out” location in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Seriously, I wish I had a tape recorder. After talking with Artisan Food vendors, one begins to understand how deep their passion runs for the food. And, this passion really shows in their products.
I tried their shortbread. Imagine typical dry shortbread, enlarge it to 10 times its normal size, slightly underbake it, and turn the flavor up to 11.
I bought a Parma Loaf. The top of the …

Whimsy and Spice

Whimy and Spice create complex flavors in small packages. They have an assortment of cookies and marshmallows, but these are not ordinary cookies. As an example, I bought their Brown Sugar Gingerspice Shortbread Cookies. On first bite, they seemed somewhat plain. On second bite, I could taste some of the ginger. On the third bite, the true complexity of the cookie finally hit me, and the flavors exploded in my mouth.
Every product of theirs that I have tried has this same complexity. You should try …

mustard-jar

This mustard is amazing. Seriously, I tried a sample at Smorgasburg, and then spent the week thinking about this mustard. Whole Grain Mustard Seeds add a textural element that is missing from most other mustards, and the taste is absolutely divine. I told my boss this week that I was boycotting sandwiches, because I could only eat them if I had this mustard. All was not lost, as I finally procured a jar for myself. Try it!

LiddabitBars

LiddabitSweets is the second reason why I made this site. They make the most amazing hand-made and dipped candy bars that have made me swear off Snickers. They have salted caramels that are absolutely amazing, and Jellies in such flavors as Raspberry Lime and Sweet Tea (and the Jellies are completely seasonal, so you never know what you will get). They are also famous for their “Breakfast of Champions” Bourbon Coffee Bacon Caramel Corn.
LiddabitSweets has their own online store, so you can buy direct from the source, …

Coconut Macaroons are gluten free.
